A very nice 8 unit housing development by Green Modus in Arizona. Notably the first project in Arizona to achieve the LEED-H rating. See more text and pictures at Inhabitat

The Crossroads, may be the only “green” homeless shelter built from the ground up. Opening soon in Oakland. I loved this quote from the article:

“This is the intersection of environmental and social justice issues,”

TALLEST SKYSCRAPER IN SAN FRANCISCO WILL BE GREEN?

San Francisco Green Skyscraper

Skidmore Owings Merrill’s proposed new tower for San Francisco. Think the words ‘Green Skyscraper’ are an oxymoron? Whatever your feeling on energy-guzzling giant steel monoliths…. ‘green’ super-towers seem to becoming quite the rage. Now the city of San Francisco is jumping on the green skyscraper train with brand new plans to build the west coast’s tallest skyscraper ever as part of the new Transbay Terminal development. My comments on it: Dang, that is one ugly building. Leave it to SOM I guess. Hey, maybe it will look better in real life. We can only hope.

Faced with a shortage of public housing, the City of Madrid commissioned Foreign Office Architects to create a sustainable multi-unit residential alternative for its new public housing development at Carabanchel. Simply known as Carabanchel 16, this building shows how you can is a simple housing design transformed into a beautiful canvas of light and shadow using the simplest tool in an architect’s arsenal: shading devices.

With the new housing regulations coming into effect in England, which will mandate that all homes in the country be emission free by 2016, the race was on for designers and builders to come up with the first prototype of what such a house will look like. Currently being exhibited in the Big Build Innovation Park area of the BRE’s OFFSITE2007 exhibition, The Lighthouse designed by Sheppard Robson, in conjunction with Arup and Kingspan Off-Site is the first house to meet these strict requirements.
